What is ketamine?Ketamine (or K, Ket, Special K, Super K, Vitamin K, or horse tranquiliser) is a drug that is used legitimately for a variety of medical purposes. However, some people also abuse ketamine because of its hallucinogenic effects. Operation ShoreLancashire Police’s work on reducing ketamine abuse is called Operation Shore. This campaign aims to stop ketamine supply in Lancashire using two routes: Relentlessly pursuing dealers and disrupting supply. Educating children, young people, parents, and carers/guardians about the dangers and illegality of ketamine abuse. Our officers will use all the legal powers available to them to ensure we’re doing everything we can to stop illegal ketamine supply in our county. Help us by spreading the truth about the dangers of ketamine and the harm it can cause. Why is ketamine dangerous?Abusing ketamine can hurt or even kill you. These are just some of its negative impacts on your body: Increased heart rate and blood pressure. Confusion, agitation, delirium, and disconnection from reality. Memory loss. Loss of the feeling of pain, which can lead to injury to you or others. Serious bladder problems. Severe abdominal pain. Liver damage. Ketamine is a highly addictive drug. Dependency can lead to a cycle of using the drug to help reduce the pain that it has caused in your body. This addiction can be very hard to break.
